Transcriptie opname radiocommunicatie V2.0

Dit is een optekening van hetgeen is te horen op de geluidsopname van radiocommunicatie tussen de militaire luchtverkeersleiding van de Koninklijke Luchtmacht en drie Britse Tornado-straaljagers. De soms slechte kwaliteit van de opname maakt de transcriptie van enkele korte passages vrijwel onmogelijk. Dit wordt aangegeven met de vermelding 'onverstaanbaar' tussen vierkante haken.

Speciale dank gaat uit naar Gareth Johnson (UK), die een verbetering aanbracht in de vorige versie van deze transcriptie. Hij ontdekte dat in een voorheen onbegrijpelijke passage aan het eind van de opname de luchtverkeerlsleider van Dutch Mil tegen een van de Tornado-piloten zegt dat er "meldingen zijn van een waarneming van een komeet" (reports of a comet sighting).

De transcriptie is ook te lezen in een vereenvoudigde Nederlandse vertaling, maar wij raden u aan de opname te volgen via onderstaande originele transcriptie.

Verklaring gebruikte termen

Dutch Mil = Roepnaam van de militaire luchtverkeersleiding van Koninklijke Luchtmacht. De verkeersleiding is een onderdeel van Operations Control Station Nieuw Milligen (AOCS NM).

603, 637C en 637A = Roepnummers van drie Britse Panavia Tornado-straaljagers.

Laarbruch = Britse vliegbasis 'RAF Laarbruch' (gesloten in 1999), net over de Duitse grens bij Venray.

Flight Level 350 = hoogte 35.000 voet (10.500 meter).

At [Flight Level] 150 = hoogte 15.000 voet (4.500 meter).

Flight Level 60 = hoogte 6.000 voet (1.800 meter).

C-5 = Lockheed Martin C-5 Galaxy, een militair transportvliegtuig dat enige tijd het grootste ter wereld was.

B-2 = Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit, een stealth-bommenwerper. De eerste vlucht van een B-2 was in 1989 (bron: FAS).

Vipers = General Dynamics F-16 straaljagers.

"Roger, that's copied, radar contact, climb Flight Level 60 initially."

"603, we turn left, about twelve o'clock, seem to be really tight on this now."

Dutch Mil:
"Roger, we've no traffic at that position."

603:
"Roger."

Dutch Mil:
"603, you have any indication about the distance?"

603:
"It's almost impossible to say because of the uh, the apparent size of it. It looks absolutely enormous and passing about, ooh, a mile or two miles ahead of us. But, uh, it's very difficult to judge."

Dutch Mil:
"Roger."

637C:
"And Dutch, 637 Charlie, possibly it's a B-2? It's difficult to tell the range but it got pretty close to us."
